Extended Fasting: Lasting Weight Loss and Youthful Vitalty

Extended fasting, defined as fasting for a minimum of 24 hours up to 7 days, has received significant attention for its amazing health benefits. Influential experts like Dr. Jason Fung, Dr. Eric Berg, and Dr. Mindy Pelz advocate for its positive impacts on health, weight loss, and overall well-being.

My Journey with Extended Fasting

I began struggling with my weight in college after gaining the “freshman 15.” In my early 20s, I lost weight with the Atkins diet, later becoming a personal trainer and earning a nutrition certification. However, after starting a small business, stress and emotional eating led to a 50-pound weight gain. Despite my background, I found myself caught in a cycle of yo-yo dieting.

A turning point came when I hit almost 200 pounds and was diagnosed with high blood pressure and prediabetes. This scare pushed me to revisit low-carb eating, which had always helped me feel better and lose weight.

Initially, I struggled with sugar withdrawals on the low-carb diet and reverted to a 1200-calorie diet, but constant hunger persisted. Seeing my sister and an employee lose weight quickly on low-carb reignited my determination. Three to four weeks into my low-carb journey, I became fat-adapted, leading to natural intermittent fasting and a 20-pound weight loss without exercise.

Discovering Extended Fasting

After implementing intermittent fasting into my routine, I lost more weight and my health improved. Listening to Dr. Jason Fung's podcast introduced me to the powerful benefits of extended fasting. Once I tried it, I noticed I looked and felt better. Extended fasting helped me achieve and maintain a 60-pound weight loss and significantly improved my overall well-being.
